If I am a security guard in another state, can I use that certification to work in MD?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A. You will need to contact your security guard agency and have them submit the status request to the Maryland State Police Licensing Division, Security Guard Section.<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>Q. Who\u00a0should apply to be\u00a0a MD Security Guard?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A. \u00a0To qualify for a State of Maryland Security Guard Certification, an applicant shall be an individual who is a current employee of, or a current applicant for employment with a licensed security guard agency and be of good moral character and reputation. Applicants must also meet any standards set by the Maryland State Police. The Maryland State Police may deny certification as a security guard to any applicant:<\/span><\/address>\n<address>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If the applicant or individual fraudulently or deceptively obtains or attempts to obtain certification as a security guard ; OR<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If, under the laws of the United States or of, any state, the applicant or individual plead(s) guilty or nolle contendre to or is convicted of (1) a felony; or (2) a misdemeanor that is directly related to the fitness and qualification of the applicant or individual to be certified as a security guard.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">NOTE: Individuals who are not current employees of or a current applicant for employment with a licensed security guard agency shall not apply for a State of Maryland Security Guard Certification.<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Q. How to become MD Security Guard and what are the costs?<\/strong><\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Step 1 <\/strong>Take the Maryland Armed Security Guard training class.\u00a0\u00a0 You will receive a Range Qualifier Certification.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This is good for two (2) years.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Additional costs during class:<\/span><\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Gun rental, Ammo (100 rounds),\u00a0eye\/ear protection\u00a0and targets.<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Step 2 <\/strong>Get your fingerprints done<em>. <\/em>Find a location <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpscs.state.md.us\/publicservs\/fingerprint.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080; text-decoration: underline;\">HERE<\/span><\/span><\/a>. Unarmed guards can be hired as soon as the MSP application is submitted. It takes up to 90 days for the MSP to process your handgun carry permit application and we can NOT put you on an armed post until you have your Carry Permit in your possession.\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>Q. Do I have to work for Statewide Protective Services?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>A. Yes and No,\u00a0 you are under no contract with us. If we are\u00a0endorsing your application, then you\u00a0will need to work unarmed hours as you wait for processing. <\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>Q. How long until I have to take a post to keep my license current?<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>A. <\/em>A Security Guard Certification expires three (3) years after its date of issuance and upon the date the Secretary of State Police sets.\u00a0 By regulation, the Secretary shall stagger the terms of the certification. The license may be renewed for an additional 3-year term. The renewal process is the responsibility of the applicant and should be started no less than 90 business days from expiration of the license. Timely renewal is the responsibility of the license holder. The renewal application and required material must be mailed to the Licensing Division at least 90 business days before a certification expires. Renewals require, in addition to the FBI fingerprints:<\/span><\/address>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">BUSINESS OCCUPATIONS AND PROFESSIONS <\/span><\/address>\n<address><span style=\"color: #000000;\">TITLE 19.
